New York State Independent Redistricting Commission votes for a single Congressional plan to send to the State Legislature

ALBANY, New York – Today, the New York State Independent Redistricting Commission has voted in favor of a single Congressional plan and voted to send this map proposal to the New York State Legislature. This redistricting plan of the New York State congressional districts is being submitted to the State Legislature in accordance with the order of the New York State Court of Appeals December 12, 2023, and in accordance with Article III, Section 4 of the New York Constitution.

A majority of the Commission’s ten-member body voted in favor of this redistricting plan. The Commission is pleased to have come to a bipartisan consensus on a single map, meeting the mandate of New Yorkers who voted to create the Commission in 2014. “I am extremely proud to lead this Commission as we came together across the aisle and created a single map proposal to send to the Legislature. This is a historic moment for this Commission and for the State of New York. I am honored to have worked together with the members on this Commission towards securing proper representation for New Yorkers.” Chairman Ken Jenkins said. “Today’s vote is a demonstration of the commitment of the members on this commission, to achieving the compromises envisioned by the voters which established this commission. I want to personally thank Chairman Jenkins and all the other commissioners for their dedication to the process.” stated Vice Chairman Charles Nesbitt.

The Commission would like to thank the thousands of New Yorkers for their participation in the redistricting process. The input shared with the Commission about the various and diverse communities found in our great state were incredibly valuable to the Commissioners as they created this proposal.
